The Objective
27 Reasons Foundation mission is to build character in today’s youth through sports! In honor of Gary Silvey, we recognize the hard work of all our high school coaches over the years who have been instrumental to the growth of our student athletes. We are helping high schools with better athletic gear and facilities through our planned events.
Remembering Gary Silvey
This years event will be in remembrance of Gary D. Silvey, a member of the Virginia Athletic Director Association and Supervisor of Athletics and Driver Education for Newport News Schools, retiring after 38 years. Silvey was a native of Russellville, KY. At a college job conference, he met J.C. “Cowboy” Range from the Newport News schools and wound up teaching special education at Warwick High School in the morning and at Carver High School in the afternoon. During his long career, he coached wrestling, football and track.
