David MacklinThe Objective

27 Reasons Foundation’s mission is to build character in today’s youth through sports! In honor of Maxie Anderson, we recognize the hard work of all our high school coaches over the years who have been instrumental to the growth of our student athletes. We are helping high schools to improve athletic gear and facilities through our planned event.

Honoring Maxie Anderson Sr.Maxie Anderson Sr.

Maxie Anderson Sr. was a native of Winston, NC. He was a 2-way star in football at CS Brown HS. His love for sports and teaching sports was evident at an early age when he began to teach his nephews all he knew about sports.

Upon graduation, he moved to Newport News and fell in love with the teams of the city — a relationship that lasted for over 55 years.

When he and the love of his life, Jean, had their 2 boys, he began teaching them all he knew about sports.
Maxie was a youth coach in Newport News, and he was a prominent member of Ferguson HS booster club — working tirelessly to make sure their student athletes had all they needed to compete at the highest level.
Maxie’s influence on athletics has had a long reach through his sons. They have carried on his tradition with Maxie Jr. going to coach high school sports in Newport News for over 20 years. Currently, Maxie Jr. is in charge of the training program for NBA players with John Lucas Enterprises. His other son, Cedric, continues to volunteer as a youth coach in baseball and basketball.

Maxie Sr.’s tradition has been passed on to his grandchildren. Troi, who was a 2 sport athlete at Menchville, is now attending college majoring in sports management and is pursuing a charter college basketball league. Caroline is a high school tennis player and his youngest grandchild, Christopher, has found a great interest in sports.

Maxie fought for over 55 years for the athletes of Newport News — whether it was a financial gift, attending games or calling school board and city council members on behalf of them.

If the lights were on in the city, Maxie could be found there supporting many generations.
